Paul suffers from a number of conditions including cerebral palsy and is unable to communicate verbally, he is reliant on his carers for everything. His carers arrive early in the morning to get him ready to go to a daycare centre. However, with only 1 bathroom in the family bungalow, this caused problems for the family, in particular, Megan, Paul’s younger sister who would often have to go to a neighbour’s house to use the bathroom before going to school.
The Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) has provided an extension creating a larger bedroom for Paul as well as a dedicated bathroom to meet his needs and assist his carers.
Mrs DB – “It’s only been a week but already it has made a huge difference to family life, I really can’t believe what a difference its made”. “And the carers were so excited, it’s so much easier to tend to Paul now before the room was filled with all his stuff, it was a danger really”.
“It’s amazing how well they’ve finished it…and how they worked around Paul, he was here most of the time”.
Mrs DB – talking to her daughter Megan; “it’s really changed your life, when you were trying to get in the bathroom when Paul was in there, the carers were there, it was a nightmare! No more nipping next door to the loo!”.
“It’s changed so much you can’t envisage how it was before”.
